The STEMM Precinct

Across our Callaghan campus, several projects are underway, or recently completed, to upgrade our STEMM facilities – in buildings such as EF, ES, V, C and NIER A. New buildings are also being planned. We are officially referring to this collection of facilities as the STEMM Precinct, as together they will facilitate new ways of working.

STEMM Precinct Projects include:

ES & EF Buildings

Refurbishment of existing teaching spaces to incorporate Technology Enabled Active Learning (TEAL), with adjacent informal learning space. Refreshed Higher Degree Researcher workspaces and social learning spaces.

Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER) Building A

New, contemporary office space on level 9 for industry partners, to support engagement and collaboration.

C Building

This refurbishment has delivered multidisciplinary research spaces on level 3 and collaborative staff and HDR workplaces on level 2.

New Biological Sciences Glasshouses

To enable the development of the new Bioresources facility, the Glasshouses are being relocated to a purpose built facility at NIER. This facility will include Glasshouses to suit required containment levels with adjacent procedural laboratories.

V Building

Full refurbishment containing new classrooms designed to support TEAL; study spaces; upgraded amenities; a bespoke retail outlet, major landscaping, improved lighting, and a range of formal and informal seating.

Callaghan Pathways Precinct

GP Building and Social Sciences Building refurbishments to provide a new hub for students associated with the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre.

New Bioresources Facility

A modern, purpose-built facility to support world-class biomedical and biological research.
