Description
This combined degree program provides scope for study in both Music, Performing Arts, and the Arts. Students complete two degree awards over four years of full-time study (or part-time equivalent).
The flexibility of this combined degree allows you:
- to develop skills in music theory technology, industry and collaboration, awa well as choosing to develop your creative passion and technical skills in areas of focus such as performance, songwriting, and production; and
- to gather skills that will prepare you for the work place and a wide variety of careers, with the flexibility to choose from a broad range of Arts majors and minors to match your specific interests, including pursuing themes and disciplines, gaining work experience, engaging with industry, and completing research projects.
Students will complete a major in Music and Performing Arts, and a major in Arts, with the option to complete an Arts minor or complement their degree with elective choices.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- You will be able to create, produce, perform and/or research to a professional standard.
- You will have the ability to function autonomously and collaboratively with others on projects and events, as per the demands of the music and performing arts industry.
- You will be able to effectively integrate digital technology into your music and performing arts practices.
- You will possess a critical and scholarly appreciation of music and the performing arts and their many aesthetics from a socio-cultural perspective.
- You will be able to function as a professional in the music and performing arts industry and act as advocate for music communities and professional bodies.
- You will have the capacity to research, analyse, and apply knowledge from disciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives within the Arts.

Admission information
Admission requirements
Selection of applicnts will be made on the basis of their Admission application and performance in:
- the Admission Application (written assessment)
- the Audition (performance)
- the Interview (oral assessment)
All candidates must complete all of the below requirements to be eligible to be considered for entry to the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts/ Bachelor of Arts:

- Complete and submit your online Audition Application.
- Audition and Interview (details in the Additional Selection Criteria section below).
Applicants must meet one of the criteria below to meet the Admission Application requirement (step 1 above):
- Completed Year 12 studies - NSW HSC or equivalent qualification (there is no minimum Selection Rank requirement); or
- Completed, or partly completed, higher education studies (0.25FTE completed or greater); or TAFE/VET qualification, with a minimum of a completed Certificate II (AQF level 2); or
- Completed recognised enabling program; or
- Overseas qualifications equivalent to Australian studies (International); or
- Post-secondary professional qualifications.

Additional selection criteria
- Auditions - An audition and interview are required as part of the application process. In the Audition Application process, you will be formally assessed on your written communication skills. You should also provide an up-to-date curriculum vitae listing any musical or artistic achievements, and any industry experiences (including paid and unpaid activities or work experience).Depending on your chosen major you will either perform (on an instrument or vocally) or present a portfolio of material (such as audio recordings, musical scores, music research, etc.) demonstrating your interest and experience in the areas you have chosen.All auditions involve an interview where you are able to discuss your musical and academic achievements and present your aspirations for the future. During the interview, you will be formally assessed on your verbal communication skills.

4 years full-time or part-time equivalent up to 10 years maximum.
International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
The Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts/Bachelor of Arts requires students to successfully complete 320 units, which is comprised of:
- 70 units of Music and Performing Arts core courses
- 30 units of Arts core courses
- 10 units from the Career-ready Placement course list
- One 80 unit Music and Performing Arts Major
- One 80 unit Arts Major
- and either:
- 50 units of electives (including minimum of 20 units at 2000 or 3000 level); OR
- 40 units of an Arts minor and 10 units of electives (elective must be 2000 or 3000 level)
Students must not exceed a maximum of 100 units at any level in each of the component programs.
Students must only complete courses that form part of the program and must not complete more than 320 units.
Students must ensure that each Major has a minimum of 60 units of unique courses.
The Performing Arts major may only be undertaken once and will count towards the requirements for the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts or the Bachelor of Arts.

Transition arrangements
Program Revisions 2023
From Semester 1, 2023 there are changes to the core course requirements for the Bachelor of Music and Performing Arts/Bachelor of Arts program. Core course CIND3000 has been removed from the core course list and a 10 unit career-ready placement course list has been added to the program.
Students who commenced prior to Semester 1, 2023 will continue to undertake CIND3000 to meet the requirements of their program. This course will remain available until Semester 2, 2024. It’s recommended that this course be completed prior to Semester 2, 2024. If you have already completed CIND3000, you do not need to complete the 10 units from the career-ready placement course list.
Performance Major
From Semester 1, 2023, MUSI3442 has been removed as a directed course from the Perfomance major. For students who have completed MUSI3442, the course will still count towards their major. For students who have not yet completed MUSI3442, they will select an alternate directed course.
