Description
Through undertaking this course students will be expected to:1. Understand the demands of academic culture and literacy, and education as a field of study.2. Demonstrate an awareness of the contributions of history, philosophy, psychology, and sociology to the understanding of education and the practice of teaching.3. Engage with the notion of teaching as a profession.4. Engage with theories that claim to capture the complexity of teachers' knowledge.5. Engage with various approaches to pedagogy and assessment (incl. the NSW Quality Teaching framework).

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

Written Assignment: Critical analysis and reflection
Annotated Bibliography: Critically analyse, research and reflect on a current educational topic
Portfolio: Reflective Multimedia Assignment
Compulsory Requirements
Compulsory Placement and WHS Requirements:
- Child Protection Awareness Training - Students must complete approved child protection awareness training.
- Working with Children - A national criminal history check and review of findings of misconduct involving children, required for any child-related work.
- Anaphylaxis Training - Students must complete approved anaphylaxis training.
