Along with maintenance, cleaning and parking, Infrastructure and Facilities Services is responsible for the strategic planning, development and operational management of the University's infrastructure and related services. Our highly skilled team provide the buildings and spaces to support and enable the delivery of world-class education, research and innovation and facilitate the provision of an outstanding student experience.
Current projects
BioResearch Facility
Campus: Callaghan
Expected completion: Late 2020, operational 2021
The University of Newcastle is investing in a new BioResearch Facility that will support world-class biomedical and biological research and will form part of the University’s new STEMM precinct. It will improve our research capabilities by giving researchers access to modern, fit-for-purpose facilities that help us keep pace with emerging technologies, methodologies and fields of research.
Honeysuckle City campus
Campus: Newcastle City
Expected completion: Stage 1A late 2020, operational 2021
At the University of Newcastle, we have a long-term vision to grow, develop knowledge and be a driver of our innovative regional economy. One core component of this is our Honeysuckle City Campus Development. This exciting project will strengthen our presence in the Newcastle CBD, enhancing our positive civic, cultural and social impact in the region.
The Forum
Campus: Callaghan
Expected completion: April 2021
Newcastle University Sport (NUsport) is the peak sporting body at the University of Newcastle. It manages The Forum Sports and Aquatic Centre on the Callaghan campus and The Forum Health and Wellness Centre in Newcastle CBD. To ensure the Aquatic Centre remains ahead of industry standards and to continue to offer dynamic and functional facilities for all users, significant refurbishment works have been prioritised to take advantage of the pool closure during the management of COVID-19.
STEMM precinct
Campus: Callaghan
Expected completion: 2023
The STEMM Facility is the flagship building in our STEMM precinct. This building symbolises how we are fundamentally changing the way our students, researchers and industry collaborators will work and learn together, as they pursue meaningful solutions to problems of local and global significance.
Central Coast Clinical School
The University of Newcastle’s Central Coast Clinical School will be a nation-leading medical, nursing and midwifery teaching and education facility, operating alongside the Central Coast Research Institute.
Together these facilities will focus on integrated healthcare, research and innovation in addressing the health needs of the local population.

The Conservatorium of Music
Campus: Newcastle City
Expected completion: Semester 2, 2020
The Conservatorium of Music is a significant public asset for the Newcastle region. Along with providing both undergraduate and postgraduate education, the facility also supports an active community music program. A program of works commenced in late 2019 for phased refurbishment that will continue into 2020.

Completed: Mid-2020
The GT Bar is undergoing a transformational fit-out to deliver an exciting new food and beverage venue for students and staff. The new fit-out will include a casual lounge area and bar which flows out to the licensed Derkenne Courtyard, and a dining area inside with a range a menu options to share a meal with friends and colleagues.

Shortland Outdoor Space
Campus: Callaghan
Completed: April 2020
The Shortland outdoor space project design, was led by students and carried out by Jane Irwin Landscape Architecture. It inspires collaboration and creativity while providing a place to relax, study and connect.
Design bus stop and road upgrade
Campus: Callaghan
Completed: Jan 2020
The design bus stop and road upgrade project will see an upgrade to the road layout to allow easier access for buses and create less confusing roadways for students, staff and visitors.
Food Science Laboratory
Campus: Ourimbah
Completed: Jan 2020
Three new and improved teaching spaces are open and operational at Ourimbah after undergoing a refresh over the Christmas period in 2019 to welcome students in time for semester one.
