Description
A Bachelor of Arts degree enables you to study what you are passionate about in life, and to gather skills that will prepare for the work place and a wide variety of careers. You have the flexibility to choose from a broad range of majors and minors, taught face to face, online, and on different campuses. You will take 30 units of Core courses across the BA degree, enabling you to become part of a common group in your first year and to focus on specific knowledge and skills you need to obtain for success. You can tailor the remainder of your program to match your specific interests, including pursuing themes and disciplines, gaining work experience, engaging with industry, and completing research projects.
Some majors/minors are offered predominantly at one campus and others are offered at both the Callaghan and Ourimbah campus or online. The availability of courses within the below listed majors/minors are subject to change.
The offerings in the Bachelor of Arts are diverse. Students must complete at least one major, with options to complement this with a second major, pair of minors or a range of electives. The Program requirements are detailed below.

Minimum English language proficiency requirements

Applicants for this program must satisfy a minimum English Language Proficiency Standard equivalent to an IELTS overall minimum of 6.0 with no subtest result below 6.0.

Program duration
3 years full-time or part-time equivalent up to 8 years maximum.
International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
This program requires the successful completion of 240 units. Students must complete one of the following structures:
- Single Major pathway A - 30 core/one (1) 80 unit major/ one (1) 40 unit minor/ 90 units electives
- Single Major pathway B - 30 core/one (1) 80 unit major/ two (2) 40 unit minors/ 50 units electives
- Single Major pathway C - 30 core/one (1) 80 unit major/ 130 units electives
- Double Major pathway A - 30 core/ two (2) 80 unit majors/ one (1) 40 unit minor/ 10 units electives
- Double Major pathway B - 30 core/ two (2) 80 unit majors/ no minor/ 50 units electives
Students must complete a minimum of 40 units at each level (1000, 2000, 3000) with no more than 100 units at the 1000 level.
Students must only complete courses that form part of the program and must not complete more than 240 units.
Major
A major must comprise of 80 units of compulsory and or directed courses from one area as follows:
- A minimum of 10 units at 1000 level. French Studies (Intermediate Sequence) and Japanese Studies (Intermediate Sequence) are excluded from this rule.
- A minimum of 40 units at 3000 level
Minor
A minor must comprise of 40 units of compulsory and or directed courses from one area as follows:
- A minimum of 10 units at 1000 level
- At least 20 units at 2000 or 3000 level
All students, please note:
- Each course can only be counted once towards a major/minor or elective
- When you have successfully completed your program, your transcript will specify completed major/s but will not specify completed minors
- Full-time enrolment (80 units per year) will enable program completion in 3 yrs. Students may enrol in less per year but completion will take proportionately longer.
Psychology Studies Major/Minor
The Psychology major/minor is for students with a general interest in Psychology. Since 2012 it has not been accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
Languages
Students who already possess knowledge of the French language (eg HSC Continuers or equivalent) are advised to consult with the French Studies Discipline Convenor BEFORE enrolling into the French Studies (Intermediate Sequence).
Students who already possess knowledge of the Japanese language (eg HSC Continuers or equivalent) are advised to consult with the Japanese Studies Discipline Convenor BEFORE enrolling into the Japanese Studies (Intermediate Sequence).

Transition arrangements
Creative and Performing Arts Major - 2022
The Creative and Performing Arts Major is only available to students who commenced the major prior to 2021. A new Performing Arts Major is available from 2022 onward.
Program Revision 2021
From 2021 there are changes to the compulsory and directed course requirements for the following majors and minors:
- Politics and International Relations Major
- Sociology and Anthropology Major
Education Major and Minor
The Education major is only available to students who commenced in this program in Semester 2 2020 or prior and have completed 40 units of courses that count towards the Education major. Students who do not meet these criteria can only complete an Education minor.
The Creative and Performing Arts major and minor are only available to students who commenced in the major/minor prior to 2021.
The Directed courses list for most majors and minors have been amended. Courses completed prior to 2021 will count towards the Directed course requirements for the major/minor.

Program Revisions 2020
The English and Writing major/minor was revised for 2020 implementation.
The compulsory courses were removed from the requirements of the major. ENGL1000, ENGL2000 and ENGL3000 were added to the Directed Course list.
Students who have completed ENGL1000, ENGL2000 or ENGL3000 prior to 2020 will count these courses as Directed Courses. From 2020, students choose 80 units for a major (a minimum of 10 units at 1000 level and a minimum of 40 units at 3000 level) or choose 40 units for a minor (a minimum of 10 units at 1000 level and at least 20 units at 2000 or 3000 level).

Honours
Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Arts degree with a credit average (GPA of 5.0) or greater, may apply to undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.
