Description
The Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management incorporates knowledge from a wide range of fields including biology, ecology, chemistry, and geology to understand human impacts on the environment and to develop ways to address these problems. When you study a Bachelor of Business you will establish a firm understanding of the contemporary business environment and undertake studies in a range of disciplines, from international business to tourism.
A combined Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management/Bachelor of Business (BESM/BBus) degree allows students to undertake and match business skills with their interest in Environment and Sustainability, a synergy that will raise awareness of commercial and entrepreneurial opportunities in the environmental space and maximise graduate employability.

Admission requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme.
The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission. These include, but are not limited to, Australian or overseas senior secondary qualifications (such as the HSC), prior tertiary studies, prior TAFE/VET studies, and completed enabling programs.

Your degree includes either compulsory or optional courses in maths. To maximise your likelihood of academic success, it is recommended that you select the course which matches your existing knowledge and understanding of maths concepts.

320 units
Program duration
4 years full-time or part-time equivalent up to 10 years maximum.
International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
Students are required to complete a total of, but no more than, 320 units, comprised of the following:
- 150 units of Core Courses
- 10 unit from the Mathematics course list
- 10 unit from the Statistics course list
- 10 unit from the Career-ready Placement course list
- One 80 unit Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management major chosen from the following list:
- Ecosystems and Biodiversity
- Marine Science and Management
- Natural Resources and Hazards
- Sustainability
- One 60 unit Bachelor of Business major chosen from the following list, please note that some core courses count towards each major for a total of 80 units per major as below and that students completing the Marketing major or the Leadership and Management major must complete a 10 unit elective in order to reach a total of 320 units:
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation (includes core courses LEGL1001 and ENVS3002)
- Politics and International Relations (includes core courses LEGL1001 and ENVS3002)
- Human Resource Management (includes core courses MNGT1001 and ENVS3002)
- International Business (includes core courses MNGT1001 and ENVS3002)

Notes
1) The Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management courses are offered from either the Newcastle - Callaghan, or Central Coast - Ourimbah campuses. The Bachelor of Business courses are offered from either the Newcastle - City or Central Coast - Ourimbah campuses.
2) Students must only complete courses that form part of the program.

2020 Revision
From 2020 there are changes to the program structure and each major. For students who commenced the program prior to 2020, please refer to the 2020 Transition Arrangements in the Additional Documents section for more information.
From 2020 the Entreprenuership and Innovation major was updated. Students who commenced prior to 2020 who have not yet completed MNGT2003 will need to complete MNGT2007 instead. Students who commenced prior to 2020 who have not yet completed MNGT3006 (20 units) will need to complete MNGT3016 and MNGT3009 instead.

Honours
Students who perform well during the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management/Bachelor of Business degree with a credit average (GPA of 5.0) or greater, may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. An Honours degree allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest. Honours is available for both degrees. There are also opportunities for cross discipline studies at Honours level.
Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
