Your passwords

Your Uni-ID (also known as your Number Plate e.g. abc123) and password combination will give you access to online facilities and resources within the University of Newcastle website.

Do not share your password with anyone. You may be held responsible for any misuse of your account.

Choosing a password

Your password must have:

  • 10 characters or more
  • upper and lowercase letters (A-Z and a-z)
  • at least one number (0-9)
  • at least one special character (~!@#$%^&_- + =’|\(){}[]:;<>,.?/).

Do not use your name, date of birth, Uni-ID or  Employee Number.

  1. Open Okta to Change Known Password
  2. Log in with your Uni-ID (e.g. abc123) and password
  3. Enter your current password
  4. Enter your chosen new password
  5. Start using your new password

If you can't remember your password, you can reset it anytime:

  1. Open the Reset Forgotten Password app
  2. Enter your username
  3. Enter the security code which was sent to your home email address
  4. Enter a new password and re-enter your new password to confirm

If you have forgotten your password but haven’t previously registered your home email address in myHub, chat to our Virtual Agent below to help you through the password reset process.

Your account will be locked for 5 minutes if you enter an incorrect password 5 times in a row.

Remember:

  • Passwords are case-sensitive
  • Make sure your Caps Lock is off
  • Use the number keys above the letter keys (not the number pad on the right of the keyboard, as your Number Lock might be off)
  • Type carefully

Try again after waiting 5 minutes.
