We are enabling Multi-Factor Authentication on all University accounts!

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to a safer digital environment, we are proud to introduce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), as a further step towards strengthening cyber safety at the University.

MFA adds an extra layer of security, significantly reducing the chances of unauthorised access.  Simply put, MFA means providing more than just a password to access your account. It combines something you know (like your password) plus verification of your identity with something you have (like your mobile phone) or something you are (like your fingerprint).

MFA process

From Monday 5 February this year, MFA will be enabled on all student accounts.

Impact on Exam Logistics:

  • Logging In Process:

With the introduction of MFA, students will need to log in using their chosen verification method before the exam commences. This process adds an extra step to the pre-exam routine, as students authenticate their identities to access the exam platform.

  • Time Considerations:

To accommodate the MFA process, it's essential to factor in additional time during the exam period. Invigilators may need to allow students a few extra minutes for the login process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free start to the exam.

  • Device Management:

As students utilise their chosen verification devices, invigilators must ensure a secure and controlled environment. This includes allowing adequate time for students to put away their devices before the exam officially begins.

  • Logging in on or off University Wi-Fi networks:

If the exam is run on a University Wi-Fi network on campus, our Trusted Network Exemption will mean students shouldn’t need to log in.  They will need to log in if exams are using other Singapore or affiliate networks. It is best to test the network where your exam is taking place before the day to provide clear expectations to your students.

Tips for managing upcoming exams as a result of the changes to MFA:

  • Communication:

Clear communication is key. Inform students well in advance about the implementation of MFA, explaining the importance of the additional security measures and any changes to the exam process. Please share the details on this page for context along with the specific changes to your exam process.

  • Logging in & Support:

Ask students to log in well in advance to test their password and verification before the exam day. Should they encounter issues, they can contact DTS (Digital Technology Solutions) on +61 2 4921 7000 or you can log a ticket online.
