Meet Kevin Young

Why did you join the University Council?
I was the first person in my family to go to University and it made such a difference in my life and that of my family. I thought it was time to give back to a wonderful institution
What do you look back on most fondly when it comes to your own education?
University was a great mix of learning, work experience and fun with great friends. University challenged the way I went about problem solving and how I thought. It was the beginning of life-long learning which has made a major difference in my life.
Kevin Young is a Non Executive Director and previous Managing Director with extensive experience in leadership within the water industry in Australia and overseas.
Kevin has more than 18 years’ experience as a Director. He is currently on the Board of TasWater, CityCare NZ and Apex Environmental NZ.
For 15 years he was Managing Director of Hunter Water and then Sydney Water.
Kevin has been named four times by the Institution of Engineers Australia as one of the Top 100 most influential engineers in Australia and was also named as the 2019 NSW Water Professional of the Year by the Australian Water Association. For over 15 years, Kevin chaired the Water Services Association of Australia’s national committee of Utility Excellence / Asset Management.
