Meet Ivana Pedruco Aniceto
Why did you join the University Council?
My deep respect for the University of Newcastle was a key motivation for joining the University Council. My appreciation for the University is rooted in the breadth of opportunities I have been afforded throughout my academic journey. The University of Newcastle welcomed me when I first began my studies and made me feel at home. I endeavour to truly give back to an institution which has given so much to me. I joined Council to give back by contributing to the maintenance of strong governance and considered decision-making that continues to place students at the heart of the University’s work.
What do you look back on most fondly when it comes to your own education?
When I look back on my education, the opportunities and my academic journey has been shaped by the dedication, guidance and passion of my lecturers. The very reason I chose to study at the University of Newcastle was due to the kindness of one lecturer whilst I was on a tour of the campus, as a prospective student. I have found that level of kindness, interwoven into every facet of my studies. My lecturers have been at the core of my studies, each playing a critical role in shaping my academic skills and further ingraining the passion I have for my studies and degree.
