Why did you join the University Council?
As a University of Newcastle alumni and a proud novocastrian I wish to support the university with my leadership experience, organisational knowledge and contribute to our community.
What do you look back on most fondly when it comes to your own education?
The great opportunities and personal development that education has provided me and the wonderful and long lasting relationships along my education journey.
Biography
Prof Michael Di Rienzo, Former Chief Executive of Hunter New England Health, was responsible for all services across the district from small rural community health centres to major tertiary referral hospitals. With 18,000 staff and an expenditure budget in excess of $2.7 billion per annum, Hunter New England Health provides services to a community of around 1 million people across an area of 130,000 square kilometres.
Following a career in Finance, Supply and logistics in the manufacturing industry, Prof Di Rienzo joined Health in 1999.
Since retiring in 2023, Prof Di Rienzo has established CXDX Connected Diagnostics, a local company focusing on medical technologies and services in brain health.
Prof Di Rienzo also provides Health Management and leadership consulting to a range of organisations.
Prof Di Rienzo holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Newcastle.
