Self service for Mac OS X
A new self-service management solution means that if you use a UON provided Macintosh computer, you now have greater control over the set-up and configuration of your laptop or desktop computer.
This means you can install apps, update software and manage most day to day support activities, without needing to contact the 17triplezero IT Service Desk. It's your internal App Store!
Getting started with the self service tool
Most Mac OS X computers will be automatically registered in the self-service management system.
You can confirm this by checking if the icon is sitting in your dock, or in your applications folder.
If you DO NOT have admin rights for your Mac, contact the 17triplezero IT Service Desk to register your computer.
Once registered, follow the Using the self service tool instructions on page 4 of Self Service solution for UON Mac OS X computers (PDF 582KB).
If you DO have admin rights, you can register via the 17triplezero IT Service Desk, or self register at https://casper.newcastle.edu.au/enrol and follow the instructions in Self Service solution for UON Mac OS X computers (PDF 582KB).
Once your Mac is 'enrolled', you can log in and see what software is available in our 'App Store'.
IT Services has made software fulfilling the required licence conditions is available for download. This includes full versions and available updates, for example Acrobat Pro or the latest version of iTunes.
Another feature of this service is software polling. The self service tool will automatically check your computer and apply updates to installed software when they become available - you just need to be connected to the UON network. If you take your Mac home, for instance, the next time you connect to our network, the updates will occur in the background.
NOTE: this service is for UON owned computers. Software must not be installed on personally owned computers. Installation of licenced software is audited.
