Description
The Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events program provides students with industry relevant business acumen and employability skills to enjoy a successful career in tourism, hospitality and events management and leadership. The Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events program offers Career-ready placement and practical internship opportunities (domestic and international), ensuring students graduate job ready. Students will have practical skills and attributes highly valued by employers the tourism, hospitality and events industries, and the broader visitor economy. Students will have the leadership skills for the ethical and responsible management of sustainable tourism futures and go on to exciting careers in private, government and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and internationally.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Demonstrate broad and coherent knowledge of tourism, hospitality and events concepts and models and their application in real world settings.
- Demonstrate critical awareness of the impacts of tourism, hospitality and events on economies, environments, societies, cultures and communities.
- Apply broad business and leadership knowledge and research skills for the development and management of sustainable tourism futures.

Admission requirements
Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme.
The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission. These include, but are not limited to, Australian or overseas senior secondary qualifications (such as the HSC), prior tertiary studies, prior TAFE/VET studies, and completed enabling programs.

240 units
Program duration
3 years full-time or part-time equivalent up to 8 years maximum.
International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
The Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events is a three year program, students are required to complete 240 units which is comprised of:
- 100 units of core courses;
- 10 units from the Career-ready placement Course List;
- 40 units of courses chosen from the Course List; and
- 90 units of elective courses.
Please be advised that when choosing elective courses, only 10 units may be undertaken at the 1000 level.
Students must complete a minimum of 40 units at each level (1000, 2000, 3000).
Students must not exceed 100 units at 1000 level.
Students must only complete courses that form part of the program and must not complete more than 240 units.
