Academic Planning and Performance

The University of Newcastle is committed to ensuring that everyone is supported to grow in their roles and careers.

Academic Planning and Performance is the University's policy and procedure for performance review and development of our people - a cornerstone of Foundations for Inspiring People. It is designed for leaders and academic staff to have productive conversations around recent accomplishments and to guide academic career planning in research, teaching and engagement that aligns to the University’s strategic priorities.

The University expects full participation in the Academic Planning and Performance process, which includes all relevant training.

Academic Planning and Performance Model

  • The Academic Planning and Performance model is based on the Foundations framework - guiding you to set goals, reflect and review against measures of performance and benchmark your progress against your peers.
  • This process will be facilitated via an annual formal planning and performance conversation with your Head of School or Academic Planning and Performance Advisor Advisor, as appointed by your Head of School.
  • Triennial Planning and Performance (TPP) is the University's performance planning and review process for Level E College Professors, who will complete TPP every three (3) years in lieu of APP. Information on TPP is available within the APP Procedure in our policy library and on our TPP Sharepoint page for staff.
