Appointing someone to a position
After the selection process activities have been completed eg interviews, job talks etc, pre-employment checks must be completed.
Satisfactory reference checks must be obtained (in line with the requirements of the Talent, Recruitment and Appointment Policy) and the University’s Gender-based Violence Declaration Form must be completed and returned by the candidate, and reviewed by the University. Other checks may be required subject to the role.
Any verbal or written offer of employment is conditional upon the completion and return of the GBV form by the candidate, and a completed review of the GBV form by the University.
Once the review, and any required action has been completed, you will be ready to offer your preferred candidate a position at The University of Newcastle.
The manager/supervisor, Human Resources Representative or selection committee chairperson will usually ring the preferred candidate to make a verbal offer.
After they accept the verbal offer a letter of offer can be sent to the candidate, along with the employment pack , HHAQ and Position Description.
For more details on the Gender Based Violence Code (GBV Code) please refer to National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence 2025
If you are recruiting casual or short term staff, you will also need to complete either a Casual Appointment Request or Fixed Term Appointment Request.
