Superannuation

Superannuation is an important part of your remuneration package with the University of Newcastle.

Super is money set aside over your lifetime to provide for your retirement.

For most people, super begins when you start work and your employer starts paying a portion, on top of your salary or wages, into a super fund account for you. Your super fund invests and manages this money for you until you retire.

The University generously contributes 17% employer superannuation for full and part-time or the minimum superannuation guarantee of 11% for casual roles in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement.

Under the Superannuation Stapling legislation, you are required to provide your current (stapled) superannuation fund or nominate our superannuation default fund, UniSuper.

You should complete the standard choice form prior to the commencement of your employment.

Additional Superannuation contributions

Employees can elect to contribute additional pre and post tax voluntary Superannuation contributions from  their fortnightly pay.

The superannuation team cannot provide recommendations or advice about super to employees as our staff are not licensed by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) to provide financial advice. Recommendations or advice include which super fund employees should choose and their level of super contributions, as well as consolidating their super.

For advice about comparing and choosing super funds visit the ASIC website or phone ASIC on 1300 300 630.

If you have any question or wish to make additional contributions please contact the super team on (02) 4033 9999, option 7 or by email
