Subject Spotlight Scheme
If you’re a Year 12 student currently completing an Australian Year 12 qualification, you can receive an offer to selected undergraduate degrees. This offer is based on strong results in English (Standard or Advanced) and at least one HSC subject related to your preferred degree, and is not reliant on your ATAR.
Details
To apply, you must:
- You must be currently completing Year 12, or have completed it within the past two years prior to the admission intake, without having undertaken any further tertiary study in the interim. You also need to achieve a Band 4 in English or English Advanced, along with the required minimum band in another recognised HSC subject.
- A Band 6 in English or English Advanced is required for Combined Laws programs
- Applyfor undergraduate admission through Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
If you’re a Year 12 students from another Australian state and territory, or completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, you’ll also be eligible provided your subjects have been mapped by UAC as comparable to NSW HSC subjects.
There is no separate application required - simply apply through UAC and list an eligible University of Newcastle degree as your first preference to be considered.
If you achieve at least a Band 4 in English or English Advanced, and meet the minimum required band in the HSC subject aligned with your preferred degree, you may be eligible to receive an offer as early as UAC's main offer round (December Round 2).
Select your preferred degree from the dropdown to check if it's available for entry through the Subject Spotlight Scheme, and to view the required subject marks. Applicants for Combined Law programs must achieve a Band 6 in English Standard or English Advanced.
Applications Open: 2 April 2025
