Special Tertiary Admissions Test
The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) is a two-hour multiple choice test organised through the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). You can use your STAT results to gain entry into certain degrees offered at the University of Newcastle.
Details
We accept STAT multiple choice results for admissions into eligible programs if you’re:
- currently undertaking non-traditional senior secondary schooling where a formal Year 12 qualification is not possible. Examples include Steiner Education Australia or Australian registered homeschooling.
- a recent school leaver or non-recent school leaver who did perform well at school and doesn’t hold any other qualifications.
For a detailed list of programs that accept the STAT as a basis for admission, refer to the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) Schedule, available through the Admissions Manual - Coursework and Enabling Programs policy (Section 6).
Please note: If you’re applying to the University of Newcastle, you only need to complete the multiple choice test —not the written tests. For further information including registering for STAT please visit ACER.
The STAT does not have an expiry date, so you can use your results for admission in any year after you have sat the test.
To find upcoming registration and test window dates, visit the ACER STAT website.
