Newcastle Northstars
The University of Newcastle is proud to partner with the Newcastle Northstars, one of Australia's most successful ice hockey clubs and a long-standing contributor to the sporting landscape of the Hunter region.
Like the Northstars, we are committed to supporting excellence, determination and opportunity. Through this partnership, we celebrate sporting achievement and help create pathways for athletes to succeed both on and off the ice.
Supporting athletes on and off the ice
The Newcastle Northstars have a proud history of success in Australian ice hockey, including their 2026 Goodall Cup championship victory.
The University supports Northstars players through NUsport and the Elite Athlete Program, helping student-athletes balance the demands of high-performance sport with their academic studies.
Through dedicated support, flexible study arrangements and access to University services, the program enables athletes to pursue their educational goals while competing at an elite level.
Together, the University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Northstars are helping athletes achieve success in sport and study while contributing to a strong and vibrant sporting community.
