Guardian Girls Karate and Stand With Audrey
The University of Newcastle is working with Guardian Girls Karate and Stand With Audrey to support safety, confidence and practical self-defence skills for our university community.
As part of the in-kind partnership, University of Newcastle staff and students can take part in a free, four-session course at the Gosford Central Campus throughout October 2026. The choice-led sessions are designed to build confidence, awareness and practical skills, with no previous karate experience required.
The partnership builds on the University’s involvement in LIGHT UP in Gosford in 2025, a community event held in honour of Audrey Griffin and to raise awareness and support for safer communities. LIGHT UP brought thousands of people together at polytec Stadium to remember Audrey and support the work of Stand With Audrey.
Through this partnership, the university continues to support initiatives that promote safety, connection and confidence across our community.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
