Employee Assistance Program

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential, short-term, solution focused counselling service free for all for University employees. We know you need to bring your whole self to work, so we also offer a jump-start into services for your immediate family member (dependents under 25 years and partner). The service can help you achieve lifestyle, work, personal and family goals and assist you with managing work and life experiences, issues or concerns that arise from time to time.

EAP provides:

  • Six free confidential counselling sessions per calendar year for staff
  • Three sessions per calendar year for  immediate family members (spouse or partner, and dependent children 25 years and under still living at home)
  • Support is available either face-to-face (at NewPsych’s rooms in Newcastle CBD or via our affiliates’ rooms regionally) or via telehealth (phone or secure telehealth link)
  • Crisis Support, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week for critical response and triage when there is a risk of harm
  • Leader Assist Service, timely and confidential consultation on psychological issues  in the workplace for University manager, supervisors and leaders

  • Please let the receptionist know when making your appointment if you require urgent counselling
  • If you cancel your appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice this will be counted as one of your UON funded sessions
