Research Clusters

Newcastle Business School research clusters conduct credible and responsible research that can solve problems important to business, society, and the region. These clusters reflect existing and emergent research strengths within the Newcastle Business School, and they bring together research partners and industry practitioners to address grand challenges facing the society today.

Digital Transformation in Business and Society

This cluster builds on the School’s existing strengths in digitalisation, analytics and laboratory resources (e.g. Marketing Technology Lab and Finance Lab) to conduct research on topics such as business digitalisation, big data and behavioural analytics, data governance and digital engagement of citizens, customer engagement with online channels, customer behaviour in virtual and augmented reality, customer experience, and pandemic impact on businesses and technology intervention.

Health Policy and Health Service Management

Health Policy and Health Service Management

This cluster harnesses long-standing research strengths of two complementary research groups - Value in Health Economics and Policy (VHeP) and Health Services Research and Innovation Centre (HSRIC). The VHeP group aims to identify inefficiencies within the current healthcare system and engage with healthcare stakeholders to provide sustainable, value-based assessments of health interventions and policies. The HSRIC aims to improve the design and management of health services with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to addressing critical health challenges.

Sustainable and Responsible Futures

Sustainable and Responsible Futures

The cluster is a broad network of scholars researching collaboratively on topics such as sustainable economic development, social innovation and entrepreneurship, the politics of climate change, climate adoption in business and industry, CSR, carbon markets and accounting, and social and psychological impact of environmental changes. Through working together, the Cluster seeks to influence the public sphere to consider new and innovative ways of improving the health of both the planet and the economy.

Workforce Resilience

Workforce Resilience

The changing nature of work, worker and the workplace triggered by major social, political, economic, technological and environmental disruptions has led to several positive and adverse outcomes for employees and organisation. The outcomes require us to rethink the future of work and employment and how best can we manage people with pandemic and technology induced changes. A key goal of this cluster is to explore organizational and individual resilience from a holistic people management perspective.
