Hear first-hand why our 2019 Ma & Morley scholar, Katherine, chose to apply and her experience as part of the scholarship program.
Katherine is passionate about raising awareness for causes close to her and creating real change by using her music to connect with people facing adversity. This includes issues around education, race, disability, health or financial hardship. She has already connected with communities across Queensland and New South Wales and worked with organisations such as Qld Music Festival, LinkUp, Former Origin Greats (FOGs), Cape York Australian Aboriginal Academy (CYAAA) alongside some of the best in the industry. Music is a universal language. She hopes to use it as a platform for people wanting to have their voice heard and believes that with a united front, we can create a world that works in harmony.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
