The Ma & Morley Scholarship Program is a transformative experience offered to students of the University of Newcastle who want to change the world.
This revolutionary scholarship program was born to honour the life-changing and enduring friendship between the successful Chinese entrepreneur Jack Ma and respected Novocastrian Ken Morley.
The program aims to inspire, educate and cultivate the next generation of globally aware and socially conscious Australian leaders and is only made possible by a generous US$20 million philanthropic commitment by the Jack Ma Foundation.
Three 2018 Ma & Morley Scholars reflect on the impact the Ma & Morley Scholarship program has had on their journey to becoming globally aware and socially conscious leaders.

We acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians of the lands on which our offices are located:
The Pambalong Clan of the Awabakal Nation - Newcastle campus at Callaghan | Darkinung People - Central Coast campus at Ourimbah | Biripai People - Port Macquarie campus
We also acknowledge and pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities from where our applicants, scholars and mentors are drawn.
We acknowledge and pay our respects to their ancestors past and present and acknowledge Indigenous future leaders, and it is the hope of the Ma & Morley Scholarship Program that we can develop meaningful relationships and work with current generations to be part of creating a fairer and respectful Australia now and into the future.
At least one third of the scholars in the program are Indigenous and we are honoured to offer the tools and support to develop their leadership qualities and global opportunities so they can change the world.
Equity is in the DNA of the University of Newcastle and is a fundamental principle of the Ma & Morley Scholarship Program. In line with this intrinsic commitment to equity, the program provides a welcoming, respectful, and safe social and learning environment for students from any background.
