Stage 1: Connect

Ma & Morley Scholars are part of a family of changemakers. You’ll start this transformative journey with a two-day Welcome Program where you’ll connect with fellow Scholars and develop your understanding of the values of the Program. You will be introduced to the extensive support systems within the University of Newcastle, as well as being matched with a Ma & Morley mentor. This is an important aspect of the program and reflects the relationship between Ken Morley and Jack Ma. Your mentor is an added layer of support who can amplify your university and scholarship experience. Your connection to each other and the traditional knowledge and culture of our First Nations people will be strengthened with a two-day on Country immersion. To close Stage 1 of the Program you will share your experience at the end of year Gala event. .

Stage 2: Cultivate

The Stage 2 leadership program offers the opportunity for you to develop and understand the leader within you, the leader you aspire to be and who your fellow Scholars are as leaders. During various meetings and activities, you’ll gain insight into how to make an impact, create change and inspire others.

Throughout your journey, you’ll stay connected through regular group gatherings – ultimately leading to an immersive global experience. This experience aims to emulate the same eye-opening journey that Jack Ma had when he travelled to Newcastle from China. Over two weeks, you’ll learn about other cultures and experiences that align with the Program’s values to develop your leadership skills and discover how you can change the world. As part of the end of year Gala event, you will connect with the Ma & Morley family and share your experiences and significant contributions in the areas of the Program values. .

Stage 3: Create

Your Ma & Morley journey culminates with an Action Project, which is an experiential opportunity to be part of creating positive change in the Scholars’ area of study or a personal passion, in a project that aligns with the values of the program, building leadership skills and confidence. At the end of year Gala event, you will celebrate and showcase the change you have created through your project and share the stage with your peers and key Program partners. .

Stage 4: Contribute

As a Ma & Morley Scholar, you’ve experienced firsthand and understand the importance of feeling supported and encouraged throughout your journey. Now you have graduated and are an Ambassador, it is time to give back. Not only to the Program, but to other Scholars who are starting out, or partway through, their own journey.

You can contribute to the Program in a number of ways – facilitating workshops at the Welcome Program, sharing your story with fellow Scholars, or even participating in a mentoring program to help others within the Program. Your leadership journey does not end when you graduate. The Ambassador Program provides Ambassadors with the opportunity to develop your skills and connections, through panel discussions, being mentored by alumni and industry leaders, and participating in other leadership opportunities, wherever your career takes you.
