The Great Hall

The Great Hall is the backdrop for many of the University’s prestigious events including University graduations, award ceremonies and gala dinners.

The Great Hall main area features a flat polished timber floor with moveable seating, a spectacular ceiling, fixed tiered seating at the rear and a stage large enough to accommodate a full symphony orchestra. The total seating capacity of the hall is 1,230 which includes 448 tiered seats and 782 removable seats.

The foyer provides a large open and welcoming space perfect for registrations, exhibitions, and pre-dinner cocktails. The space is flexible and can be arranged in a variety of settings for your event including gala dinners, conferences, music and choir concerts, school formals, and exhibitions.

Venue Hire

The venue hire includes the use of seating and round tables to fit the capacities specified for theatre or dining set up. Additional furniture requirements can be coordinated directly between you and a preferred supplier at the your expense. Preferred suppliers include Exotic Lily Events and Newcastle Event Hire.

Our in-house caterer NUservices can meet your food and beverage needs with breakfast, lunch and canape menus. There are limited kitchen facilities on site, but our campus caterer is experienced in delivering a quality, multi-course dining experience for up to 300 guests in the space.

The Great Hall is equipped with technology to accommodate a diverse range of events in various sizes. Please discuss you AV needs with the Venues & Events team. For large events we recommend engaging an AV expert. Preferred suppliers include A1 Audio and Lighting, Fordtronic AV and Scion Audio. Should you require AV assistance a run-through with a preferred supplier in advance of the event is recommended.

You will have access to the UON Conference wifi. Please check with venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au for the current password.

Should you require a space to be set up in a specific layout, you will need to make a request at least ten business days prior to your event via email to venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au.

Depending on the size of your event, we may recommend an onsite first aid officer and/or on site security to assist with safety of your guests.
