Local Connections
The architecturally designed restaurant, Local Connections, is conveniently located within our beautiful bush campus at Callaghan.
This light-filled restaurant offers a combination of sophistication and style for business and networking and private events. Seating up to 80 guests seated in the restaurant or up to 150 cocktail style. When used in combination with the Derkenne Courtyard, it can accommodate up to 350 guests.
At Local Connections, your guests will indulge in the local, vibrant cuisine of Newcastle and the Hunter region, combining fresh, colourful ingredients into creative farm-to-table dishes. Working with local suppliers, the restaurant works to strengthen the connection between the University and community. With ever-changing cuisine possibilities, our Head Chef Alex Hunter will create a tailored menu to suit your event.
Venue Hire
Please enquire about the furniture included in the venue hire application as availability will vary depending on other bookings at the time. Additional furniture requirements can be coordinated directly between you and a preferred supplier at the your expense. Preferred suppliers include Exotic Lily Events and Newcastle Event Hire.
Our in house caterer NUservices can meet your food and beverage needs with breakfast, lunch, and canape menus or you are welcome to use your usual caterer.
You will have access to the UON Conference wifi. Please check with venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au for the current password.
Please enquire about AV included for the venue you are hiring. Most spaces include a screen and wireless or HDMI connection. Should you require AV assistance a run-through with a preferred supplier in advance of the event is recommended. Preferred suppliers include A1 Audio and Lighting, Fordtronic AV and Scion Audio.
Should you require a space to be set up in a specific layout, you will need to make a request at least ten business days prior to your event via email to venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au.
We aim to meet all clients on site and can assist with AV set up if needed. Onsite Security team members can provide first aid and assist in the case of an emergency. They can be contacted on 4921 5888 or are located at reception on the ground floor. If you need to contact the Venues and Events team you can call 4921 6759.
