Conference and event space

The Brennan Room offers a carpeted open space with a picturesque treetop outlook located in the Shortland Building at Callaghan Campus and caters for medium to large scale events.

Practical and versatile - the Brennan Room is easily one of our most popular rooms for numerous events at Callaghan. The space consists of two large drop-down screens with ceiling mounted projectors, a built-in audio system and a flexible stage. The room can host 100 to 400 attendees and allows for a theatre style set up, or a sit-down dining event with room for a pre-dinner cocktail area. It is located next to Local Connections restaurant to cater for everything from a large-scale gala dinner or a simple morning tea.

The Brennan Room can also be combined with the McClarty Room to offer a space suitable to host an expo or to offer multiple use spaces for a conference. The McClarty Room is a large timber floored area with exposed beams and high windows. It can also be combined with meeting rooms on level 2 for workshops and breakout sessions

Venue hire

Please enquire about the furniture included in the venue hire application as availability will vary depending on other bookings at the time. Additional furniture requirements can be coordinated directly between you and a preferred supplier at the your expense. Preferred suppliers include Exotic Lily Events and Newcastle Event Hire.

Our in house caterer NUservices can meet your food and beverage needs with breakfast, lunch, and canapé menus or you are welcome to use your usual caterer.

You will have access to the University of Newcastle Conference wi-fi. Please check with venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au for the current password.

The Brennan Room includes two large drop down screens and ceiling mounted projectors, as well as a built in audio system with a HDMI connection. It has two handheld and one lapel microphone. This room is not set up for zoom meetings. Should you require AV assistance, a run-through with a preferred supplier in advance of the event is recommended.

Preferred suppliers include Fordtronic and Scion Audio.

Should you require a space to be set up in a specific layout, you will need to make a request at least ten business days prior to your event via email to venuesandevents@newcastle.edu.au.

We aim to meet all clients on site and can assist with AV set up if needed. Onsite Security team members can provide first aid and assist in the case of an emergency. They can be contacted on 4921 5888. If you need to contact the Venues and Events team, please call 4921 6759.
