Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Knowing what is going well is just as important as knowing what needs to change.

We all know the age old saying; "if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything  at all", but nothing changes without honest feedback! If there are things you think need improving, let us know, but make sure it is constructive feedback. Check out our Do's and Don'ts to make sure your feedback is counted.

We need feedback from all kinds of students at different stages of their university experience. A few surveys you might see…

  • the Course Experience Survey (CES) for feedback on courses and teachers i.e. INFT1010
  • the Student Experience Survey (SES) for feedback on your overall program i.e. Bachelor of Teaching
  • the Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS), which you will receive about 4 months after graduation
  • the Student Feedback on University of Newcastle (SFUN) for feedback on UON facilities and services such as parking, food and beverage on campus, HUBS, IT support etc..
  • and a few more for special times like orientation or if we are investigating an issue

Yes. Your personal details are not stored with your survey responses. Academic staff have absolutely no access to raw data and would never be given personal information about any student or their responses. If you want to know more, you can read our Participant Privacy Policy.

The best way to resolve problems or clear up confusion is to try talking face to face with your instructor after class or in their office hours. Teaching staff often have overflowing inboxes, so it can be hard to respond to emails in a timely fashion. Or you can escalate issues to your course coordinator or program convenor.

You can also send your confidential feedback to ASKUON at any time during or after the semester at www.newcastle.edu.au/contact

For more serious issues you can contact your school office or make a complaint https://www.newcastle.edu.au/current-staff/our-organisation/governance/assurance-services/complaints.

For the Course Experience Survey, we will email you a report for all of the courses you are enrolled after the fully graded date. These reports expire at the end of the calendar year, so if you would like a copy make sure you download it. Results of other past surveys, as well as information about the improvements being made are all available on the Feedback and Surveys page.

Also check out your course outline for changes to your course that have been made as a result of feedback from past students.

You can change your survey responses anytime prior to the survey closing date. For other issues, just email surveys@newcastle.edu.au with your student number and an outline of the issue you are experiencing.  If you have any questions about surveys, just drop us a line… we are here to help!
