Student leadership and representation

One of the best ways to get first-hand leadership experience, to develop demonstrable teamwork capability and to build your confidence is to be involved as a student representative or leader.

Student leader and rep roles give you invaluable experience and transferrable skills which really helps you stand out from the crowd when you are applying for work.  Experience in student governance has been shown to benefit both your potential job placement as well as your studies.

Some roles are your chance to be the student voice in the room while others are your opportunity to have your say and effect change on the issues that matter to you and to the students you represent.  Peer leader and mentor roles provide you the opportunity to directly assist other students while still developing a range of excellent transferrable and sought-after skills.

There is a huge range of positions available on club and society executives, University Council, Academic Senate, UNSA (the University of Newcastle Student Association), College and School Boards as well as through a range of other committees as well as mentoring and leadership opportunities across the University.
