NUmates
NUmates is a social program designed to help international students feel connected, supported, and at home at the University of Newcastle.
Starting a new life in a different country can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming. NUmates makes it easier by bringing students together through fun events, friendly conversation, and a welcoming community.
- Regular social events – from pancake brunches and cooking classes to whale watching, movie nights, and cultural tours.
- Peer connection – opportunities to chat, make friends, and share experiences in a relaxed environment.
- Online community – a moderated Facebook group where students can connect between events.
- Support when you need it – informal contact with staff and student leaders who can help point you to the right services.
- Build friendships across cultures.
- Discover Newcastle, the Central Coast, and beyond.
- Learn new skills and share your own culture.
- Feel welcomed, supported, and part of the University community.
NUmates is open to all international students currently enrolled at the University of Newcastle. Whether you’ve just arrived or have been here a while, you’re welcome to get involved.
