Employer Excellence in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award
This award recognises an industry, business, or community partner that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace. Recipients will have created inclusive environments that support the success of students from diverse backgrounds, particularly through meaningful employment or placement opportunities.
Selection Criteria
Nominees for this award will have shown leadership and innovation in fostering inclusive practices that support student employability. Examples of eligible achievements include:
- Actively recruiting or hosting students from diverse* backgrounds for career-ready placements or employment.
- Providing tailored adjustments to support student participation in workplace experiences (e.g., assistive technologies, flexible work arrangements).
- Implementing support mechanisms for student wellbeing, such as mentoring, cultural support, or buddy systems.
- Demonstrating inclusive workplace planning (e.g., sensory spaces, prayer rooms, cultural celebrations).
- Upholding anti-discrimination principles through clear codes of conduct and inclusive policies.
- Embedding EDI into organisational culture through training, policy development, or inclusive procurement practices.
A single recipient will be selected for this award.
*Diversity (or Equity) Groups may include:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
- Students with disability
- Culturally or linguistically diverse students
- LGBTQIA+ students
- Students who identify as women in STEMM
- Students with parenting or caring responsibilities
Who can be nominated?
Nominees must:
- Be a business, industry, or community partner of the University of Newcastle.
- Not have previously received the Employer Excellence in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Award.
Who can nominate?
Nominations for this award can be submitted by:
- Business, industry, or community partners. Self-nominations are welcome.
- University staff members.
- Students who are currently enrolled at the University or who graduated in 2025.
