Student Entrepreneur of the Year

This award is for a student who engaged in a technological, social or creative entrepreneurial and innovation activity. The Student Entrepreneur of the Year recipient will have a demonstrated ability to think differently and present new concepts while achieving impact in the areas of enterprise and innovation.

Selection Criteria

The award celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of a University of Newcastle student by recognising an outstanding performance in an entrepreneurial activity they started or successfully managed.

For example, the student may have:

  • demonstrated outstanding and exceptional achievement or success
  • exemplified an innovative mindset through the development of an innovative product, service, or approach
  • created a business or operational system which has been a pioneer or disruptor in its field
  • established a business model which demonstrated sustainable financial performance
  • demonstrated a strong entrepreneurial mindset through translating a vision into reality, a willingness to take risks, engaging others, or embracing the challenges of the entrepreneurial landscape.
  • demonstrated connection or participation with the I2N ecosystem
  • demonstrated impact on a social or community issue through the work of the venture they started or currently lead.


Nomination is open for all current students from the University of Newcastle.

For a nomination to be eligible a nominator must be a business/industry/community partner, University of Newcastle staff member or current student.
