Student Employee of the Year

This award recognises outstanding achievement by a student in a paid employment role, including positions offered by the University of Newcastle. Recipients will have undertaken impactful workplace activities that contributed to their own career development and supported the success of their employer or organisation.

Selection Criteria

This award celebrates exceptional student performance in the workplace and acknowledges the personal and professional growth gained through paid employment. Examples of eligible achievements include:

  • Making a positive impact in the workplace.
  • Developing employability skills through practical experience.
  • Demonstrating exceptional achievements in a role.
  • Providing exemplary service to clients, customers, or stakeholders.
  • Contributing to an innovative or outstanding initiative.
  • Playing a key role in improving workplace processes, systems, or culture.

A single recipient will be selected for this award.

Who can be nominated?

Nominees must:

  • Be a current student or a recent graduate who completed their studies in 2025.
  • Be currently employed by the relevant organisation or have been employed there at any time during 2025.
  • Not have previously received the Student Employee of the Year Award.

Important notes on eligibility:

  • Students undertaking paid placements that are a mandatory part of their course requirements are not eligible for this category. These students may instead be eligible for the Student Career-Ready Placement Award.
  • Students who are employed in a paid role by an organisation where they previously completed a placement (but are no longer on placement as a part of their course requirements) are eligible for this award.
  • For recent graduates to be eligible, they must have been employed by the organisation while they were still enrolled as a student in 2025.

Who can nominate?

Nominations for this award can be submitted by:

  • Business, industry, or community partners, including workplace supervisors.
  • University staff members.
  • Students who are currently enrolled at the University or who graduated in 2025. Self-nominations are welcome.
