Work Integrated Learning Student of the Year

This award is for outstanding student achievement in Work Integrated Learning. The recipient will have engaged in meaningful and consequential workplace activity that has benefited their learning outcomes and developed their employability.

This award can have up to three recipients.

Selection Criteria

The award recognises innovations and/or outstanding performance in Work Integrated Learning activity. For example, the student may have:

  • demonstrated outstanding and exceptional achievement or success
  • provided an outstanding service to clients
  • contributed to an outstanding or novel initiative which has been implemented
  • contributed to significant improvements to work procedures or operational systems

Eligibility

Nomination is open for all students from the University of Newcastle (including those who completed their studies at the end of Semester 1, Trimester 1, or Trimester 2). Students must have successfully completed in 2023, or are currently undertaking, a workplace-based placement or project in an authentic professional context. For example, an internship, practicum, or field experience in which the student engages in meaningful and consequential workplace activity that is designed to achieve enhanced and integrative learning. Work Integrated Learning can be seen as occurring in a workplace, in the community or the University. Work Integrated Learning can be real or simulated, as long as the experience is authentic, relevant and meaningfully assessed and/or evaluated.

For a nomination to be eligible a nominator must be a workplace supervisor, University of Newcastle staff member or current student who has participated in Work Integrated Learning.
