Demystifying attendance at Council
ATTENDANCE BY INVITATION
The Committee Chair may invite an officer of the University or external person to attend a Committee or Council meeting to speak to or present on a particular item.
The invitee may be asked to respond to queries raised by the Committee members at the meeting. Attendance by invitation is not afforded rights of debate, unless requested by the Committee.
RIGHTS OF AUDIENCE
It is the right of a Council member to appear on behalf of Council to have visibility and a formal mechanism for communicating with other committees without overlap or conflicted deliberations.
The University Secretary is afforded Rights of Audience, this is in accordance with the role and responsibility obligations of the appointed Secretary.
