Goal 10:
Reduced Inequalities
Anti-Harassment Policy
In 2024, the University of Newcastle continued to maintain a clear and comprehensive Workplace Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Policy, which explicitly prohibits all forms of unlawful harassment, and outlines the University's commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
The policy states that the University:
- Will not tolerate, and is committed to preventing, harassment in all forms
- Takes a proactive approach to educating staff and students on respectful behaviour and reporting procedures
- Ensures timely and confidential management of complaints related to harassment and other forms of misconduct
Section 8 – Harassment specifically addresses the University's obligations under relevant state and Commonwealth legislation, including protections against sexual harassment, racial vilification, and other unlawful behaviours.
This policy forms part of a broader institutional commitment to equity, safety, and human rights across the University community. This policy was effective from the 8th of April 2024 and will be reviewed in Arpil 2027.
Support and care is available 24/7 across all campuses. If you or someone you know is the victim of discrimination, violence, bullying, or feels unsafe on campus, help is available.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
