IFS EV vehicles
University EV Fleet Vehicles

The Infrastructure & Facilities Services (IFS) fleet vehicles are now Electric Vehicles (EV).

Electric vehicles are an important step towards building more sustainable societies.  EVs use an electric motor powered by batteries and are more efficient than conventional combustion engine vehicles, generating zero exhaust emissions.  EV uptake aligns with the University's net zero carbon targets and ongoing commitment to the University’s sustainable development goals.

IFS vehicles are allocated to staff on a first in, first served basis, and can only be booked for short term use (no longer than four consecutive days).  These vehicles can ONLY be used for official University business. The EVs are a medium sized vehicle seating 4 adults comfortably.  The IFS fleet does not include minibuses, vans or utes.

IFS vehicles can be booked by calling (02) 4921 6500 or by emailing 16500@newcastle.edu.au.

In the event that a vehicle is unavailable, or the EV does not meet your needs based on your travel destination, University staff have access to hire a rental vehicle. The University has discounted rates with AVIS, Budget and Hertz, further information and rates are available from Strategic Procurement Fleet vehicle SharePoint site here.

The IFS team are happy to provide training on how to charge the EV using available charging options.  The EVs can be charged at any ChargeFox or NRMA station free of charge, using the RFID card that is provided with the vehicle.

Should you choose to charge at an alternative paid station, IFS are NOT able to provide reimbursement, you will need to submit an Expense Reimbursement Claim Form. Prior to submitting this claim form you will need approval from your College or Division to use their cost collector on the form. If you choose to charge the EV vehicle at your home reimbursement is not available.

You can download the ChargeFox app to your preferred mobile device to find the nearest charge stations in their network, for further information refer to ChargeFox network. Once you have downloaded the app, simply sign up and sign in to begin.

Alternatively, the following app can be downloaded to assist with other paid charging options:  PlugShare
