The University of Newcastle is a multi-campus institution offering programs in a number of locations.
The demand for Accredited Exercise Physiologists in a variety of health environments is expanding rapidly. The Master of Exercise Physiology at the University of Newcastle is a unique, advanced and contemporary allied health program which aims to bring critical thinking and appraisal of evidence in exercise physiology and health practice to the forefront.

The multidisciplinary courses embedded in the degree will allow you to develop advanced knowledge and skills in disease pathologies, principles of pharmacology and behaviour change allowing effective and holistic exercise interventions to be created.
Develop broad knowledge and be equipped with the practical competencies and critical problem-solving skills required for the management and treatment of a broad array of disease conditions through exercise prescription and delivery.
You will also have access to the new Exercise Physiology Clinic based on the Ourimbah campus. The Exercise Physiology Clinic will provide students with opportunities to develop their practical skills in a supervised setting to ensure students are prepared for external practicum and the workplace.
Your core studies will focus on the following areas:
Exercise physiologists are employed in a wide range of health settings and serve the increasing needs of the ageing Australian population.
Graduates will develop the expertise to work as a self-employed Exercise Physiologist and/or contribute to a range of career options that require skills and knowledge in clinical exercise physiology, including government and private hospitals, aged care organisations, private practice Exercise Physiology clinics, multi-disciplinary health care settings, sporting settings and government.
Additional career opportunities include undertaking further research and/or education to further develop professional and advanced clinical skills.
This program is provisionally accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).
This program includes three career-ready placement courses that ensure students develop professional competency in tasks within the scope of practice of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP).
Students will also undertake a minimum of 360 hours of exercise physiology practicum in a range of activities relevant to the AEP Professional Standards. These practicum opportunities will see students engage professionally across hospital and private practice clinics throughout the Central Coast, Hunter, Northern Sydney and regional NSW.
As part of their studies in professional and evidence-based practice, students will have the opportunity to research and critique existing models of health care and the benefits of exercise in a diversity of advanced industry scenarios.
Students are also able to develop their practical skills in the Exercise physiology Clinic a supervised setting to ensure they are ready to apply for accreditation and for the workplace.

You will be considered for entry based on criteria such as your undergraduate studies and/or equivalent prior learning and/or relevant work experience.
Make sure you double check the special entry requirements, assumed knowledge or recommended studies for the degree:
Prior completion of an AQF7 Bachelor degree (or higher), or equivalent, in exercise and sport science that is accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)*
*If you have completed a non-ESSA accredited Bachelor degree in/or related to the field of exercise and sports science, you will also require a successful Graduate Entry Assessment from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
Students that have completed the Graduate Diploma in Exercise and Chronic Disease Management will not be allowed entry into the Master of Exercise Physiology unless they can demonstrate a successful Graduate Entry Assessment from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
Three professional practicum courses will be completed in this program.
As well as placements in the Central Coast, it is expected that you will be available to attend out of area placement locations. Travel and/or relocation will be at the student’s own expense.
