English Language Pathways

University of Newcastle English Language Pathways specialise in teaching English and Academic Skills to students from all over the world. Successful completion of our English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) allows students who have met the academic requirements of their degree to transition to their award program with the University of Newcastle and the College of International Education (CIE).

We offer a range of intensive Academic English courses designed to help students improve their language proficiency and achieve their goal of studying at the University of Newcastle, as well as providing opportunities to engage with the wider community as part of our award winning Student Experience Program.

Our English Language Pathways are available face to face at our Callaghan Campus, with Study from Home options still available via our hybrid classrooms.

About our English Language Pathways

The University of Newcastle's English Language Pathways have been offering English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) since 1989, and has established a reputation for excellence in English language education. Based in Newcastle, our English Language Pathways include the English Language Bridging Program (ELBP) for direct-entry students, and also offers a range of short-term integrated and tailored Study Tour options.

Each year, approximately 800 students from over 30 source countries study with Our English Language Pathways. We provide a friendly, supportive, and culturally diverse atmosphere as part of the wider University of Newcastle environment. Courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).

Our staff are led by Pathways and Academic Learning and Support Centre Director, Dr. Anna Bennett, and Assistant Director Benjamin Doran. The English Language Pathways is a member of University English Centres Australia (UECA), and English Australia. Our programs are accredited by the National ELT Accreditation Scheme (NEAS).
