High School Financial Literacy Program/Academy Stage 5 (Year 9 and Year 10)
The Greater Bank Finance Academy began in 2018 and was initially designed to assist High School students increase their knowledge and decision making skills about finance and money. Details can be found at www.greater.com.au/uon
It has been recognised that students in stage 5 will benefit from early development of financial literacy. This on demand program for stage 5 students is designed for use in the classroom or the home at a time suitable to the instructor and can be paced according to the ability of the student.
With course content created in partnership with University of Newcastle (theory) and Greater Bank (practical), the course is delivered by University of Newcastle student ambassadors and Greater Bank staff. The Finance Academy will be integrated into various subjects across year 9 and 10 curriculum.
All lessons teach the concept of money in a fun way with age appropriate activities. Lessons are targeted to Year 9 and 10 students, but also appropriate for Year 11.
The program consists of four core lessons and editable workbooks for students to complete during those lessons. The lessons are delivered by a mixture of teachers, University of Newcastle student ambassadors, and Greater Bank ambassadors. Lessons delivered by teachers are supported and facilitated by our provided materials.
There are also three elective lessons available for students to study – these lessons cover employment, investing, and cybercrime and scams.
At the completion of lesson four in a classroom-based delivery, a Certificate of Completion will be provided to the students. Details can be found at www.greater.com.au/uon
