What's new on campus in 2021!
New year, new campus changes!
Wondering what's new on your campus this year? From a new e-sports lounge, to student kitchen and furniture upgrades, to new campus artworks, we've got you covered!
New Careers Space at Callaghan
Looking for career advice or have a meeting with our Careers Team? You'll now find them in their brand new space on Level 3 of the Shortland Building! For more information about what services our Careers Team offer, check out their website.
(Please note Student Central - Shortland has now permanently closed, but you can access the same services across the bridge at Student Central - Hunter in the Student Services Building at Callaghan).
Ourimbah Upgrades
If you're studying at our Ourimbah campus, you might notice a few new things! We've refurbished the two student kitchens, freshening them up and installing vending machines for that after-hours snack craving.
Our two retail outlets have also undergone a makeover with all new furniture and great new fresh food options. The names of the cafés are from the Darkinung language: Yara Ngura located near the Library are the words for "gumtree place", and Gunda Burung located in the Student Amenities (SA) building are the words for "food shelter".
Walking around campus, you'll also see the Forest Walk has had an upgrade as fibreglass micromesh has been installed. The bridge also had a paint job, repairs to its balustrade, and new feature lights installed.
Park on the Hill Upgrades
Why not give our upgraded basketball court and new futsal court next to Park on the Hill a go?
The basketball court has been refreshed in traditional Indigenous colours in a collaboration with The Wollotuka Institute. It aims to acknowledge the cultural diversity of our Uni, connect our community, and start a conversation.
The area outside Bar on the Hill now also has new umbrellas which are brightening up our campus and providing some shade for those sunny summer days.
New E-Sports Area Now Open!
Overpowered are operating an e-sports and gaming lounge within Bar on the Hill, so if you're looking for something to do between classes they have you covered! Check out their website for more information.
Campus Artworks
At Callaghan our alumni artists, Ellie Hannon and Tim Henderson have brightened up the wall near the Drama lawn and the walkway under Auchmuty library with some amazing artwork.
Food Options at Callaghan
While our Hunter Building food retailers now permanently closed with the closure of the Hunter Building, there are still plenty of spots to get food and coffee or heat up your lunch at a student kitchen. Local Connections have opened up with great all-day dining options. Bar on the Hill is still your go-to place for a cold drink or a schnitzel.
Forum Upgrades
We're still working on upgrading the pool in the Forum – so get ready to jump back in later this year!
Security Team Updates
Last but not least, don’t forget to say hi to our team in Campus Security when you see them around in their new bright blue uniforms and electric buggy!
