What is Engineering
Engineering or the process of solving problems using maths and science, is part of every day life.
The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment has been integrated into the new College of Engineering, Science and Environment.
Our Faculty brings together expertise in engineering, architecture, building, surveying, information technology and computing. Our degree programs focus on the development of innovative, resourceful and creative graduates - future leaders in industry, the profession and the community.
The University of Newcastle (UON) has been ranked 8th in the world for Automation and Control Engineering, and 37th in the world for Mineral & Mining Engineering in the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities.
UON's Mineral & Mining Engineering subjects have also been ranked in the top 50 in the world by the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019. The Faculty's subjects have all been ranked in the world's top 300:
No problem too big or too small
There are many ways you can work with the Faculty for mutual benefit. Possibilities range from large-scale, long-term collaborations with multiple partners, to fast turn-around consultancies, to low-budget student-driven projects.
The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment supports a range of community outreach events and programs throughout the year. These events provide students and other community members an opportunity to engage with exciting technology through different activities and learn about the importance of engineering in our everyday lives.
The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment is focussed on the evaluation, review, development, recommendation and implementation of initiatives to promote gender equity and diversity through the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee.
The Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment is one of the leading faculties of its kind in Australia. We are internationally recognised for our outstanding research record, which places our engineering schools, with their state-of-the-art facilities, among the best in Australia.
Our Architecture, Engineering and Computing students create amazing projects throughout their degree. Some even take part in special project student groups where they can; design, build and race a formula style car, program soccer-playing robots, build an autonomous boat or invent something completely new in our student Makerspace.
Our position as one of the most highly ranked engineering faculties in Australia is recognised through our associate membership of the Group of Eight.
One of only three Australian member institutions of the Global Engineering Education Exchange Program.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
