Description

If you are a teacher or allied health professional with a desire to enrich the learning experiences of children and adolescents facing unique challenges then the Graduate Certificate in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education is the program for you.

The program is suitable for educators working in inclusive contexts, or who wish to gain additional qualifications in the area of emotional and behavioural support. The program will enable qualified allied health professionals to understand and utilise educational strategies to assist children and adolescents with additional needs. The program provides theoretical and practical skills so you can cultivate a rich learning environment, supported by your specialised skills in diversity programming and adjusted learning activities which support individual students.


Program learning outcomes

On successful completion of the program students will have:

  • Demonstrated the application of knowledge and skills with expert judgement, adaptability, and responsibility in order to teach students of diverse abilities in inclusive or special education settings.
  • Demonstrated advanced and integrated understanding of applied theory and pedagogy to support learning and behaviour in inclusive or special education settings.
  • Critically reflected on current research, interpreted and applied evidence-based strategies to teaching practice in inclusive or special education settings.

Admission information

Admission requirements

Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Emotional and Behavioural Support in Education will be available to applicants who have:

  • 4 year Bachelors Degree; or
  • 3 year Bachelors Degree; or
  • Advanced Diploma or Diploma in a related field/discipline and 2 years relevant work experience; or
  • Advanced Diploma or Diploma in an unrelated field/discipline and 3 years relevant work experience; or 
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience in a related field/discipline.

Related fields/discipline areas are:

  • Teaching or Early Childhood Education
  • Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, or Social Work
  • Mental Health Care, Disability Support, or Community Care
  • Art or Music Therapy

English Language Requirements

All Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University’s English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy here.

  • IELTS Overall Minimum: 6.5
  • IELTS Sub Test Minimum: 6

Additional information

Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
