Description
The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration is designed to provide students with a range of skills that will prepare them for increasingly competitive careers in business management in the corporate and public sectors. The program offers a grounding in fundamental business areas such as management, and organisational behaviour plus business analysis, globalisation, marketing, human resource management, economics, and accounting and financial management. Analytic and problem solving skills are emphasised through an applied understanding of the theoretical framework within which today’s managers must operate.
Program learning outcomes
On successful completion of the program students will have:
- Effective oral and written skills to communicate complex business management information to a variety of audiences
- Effective independent or collaborative work skills to apply specialised knowledge and expert judgement to business management tasks.
- Critical thinking and analytical problem solving skills to be able to justify sound business management solutions
- Specialised knowledge of theories, models and concepts relevant to business management and be proficient in their application
- Skills to apply relevant theories, principles and methodologies to research in business management

Admission information
Admission requirements
Entry into the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (40 units) will be available for applicants who have:
- 3 year Bachelors Degree; or
- 3 year Diploma in a related field; or
- 3 year Diploma not in a related field + 1 year relevant organisational experience; or
- 2 year Diploma in a related field + 2 years relevant organisational experience; or
- 2 year Diploma not in a related field + 3 years relevant organisational experience; or
- At least 5 years organisational experience.
*related fields include accounting, business, commerce, economics, finance, human resource management, industrial relations, management or marketing.
English Language Requirements
All Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the University’s English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy here.
- IELTS Overall Minimum: 6.5
- IELTS Sub Test Minimum: 6
Credit transfer

International students studying this program on campus are required to enrol full time to comply with their student visa requirements and complete their study in the standard minimum program duration. Program requirements
The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration requires completion of 40 units of courses comprising 20 units of core courses and 20 units of courses chosen from the course list. The program may be completed in one trimester full-time or part-time equivalent.

Transition arrangements
Program Revision 2023
PACC6003 replaces GSBS6130. Students who have successfully completed GSBS6130 cannot complete PACC6003.
PACC6008 replaces GSBS6002. Students who have successfully completed GSBS6002 cannot complete PACC6008.
This program replaces program 11372. Any students who wish to transfer to the new program should seek advice from the Program Advisor at programadvice@newcastle.edu.au. Students wishing to complete the existing program (11372) will be able to complete the program as all of the courses will still be offered.

Additional information
Through the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, students can access a free suite of NUPrep preparation courses as well as Academic Learning Support.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students can draw on the assistance and support provided by the Indigenous Student Support and Development service through the Wollotuka Institute.
