SWIFT

What is SWIFT?

SWIFT is the University of Newcastle’s Student Written Information Feedback Tool.

SWIFT gives students fast, structured feedback on written assessments before submission. It is designed to help you reflect on your writing, understand how your work aligns with the assessment criteria, and identify areas you may want to improve.

SWIFT does not rewrite your assignment or make changes for you. Instead, it provides feedback to support your own learning, helping you make informed decisions about your writing while keeping you in control of your final submission.

Access SWIFT

You can use SWIFT to receive feedback on areas such as:

  • how well your work responds to the assessment criteria
  • structure and organisation
  • clarity of writing
  • academic tone
  • use of evidence and argument
  • areas that may need further development.

SWIFT is one of the academic support tools available to help you build confidence in your writing and prepare stronger written assessments.

Details

To use SWIFT, you will need to upload:

  • your written assessment draft
  • the relevant assessment criteria or rubric

SWIFT will then generate feedback to help you review your work. This may include an overview of your writing, feedback linked to the assessment criteria, and more detailed comments to help you identify possible improvements.

You should use the feedback as a guide only. Your final assessment remains your own work, and it is your responsibility to decide how to respond to the feedback.

Before using SWIFT, make sure you:

  • check your course requirements and assessment instructions
  • include the correct assessment criteria or rubric where required
  • allow enough time to review the feedback and make your own changes
  • continue to follow the University’s academic integrity requirements

SWIFT is designed to support your learning. It should not replace advice from your Course Coordinator, tutor, Learning Advisor or other academic support services.

SWIFT is a feedback tool. It is not designed to complete your work for you.

You are responsible for the final content of your assessment, including the ideas, structure, sources and wording you choose to submit.

When using SWIFT, you should continue to follow the University’s academic integrity requirements and any instructions provided in your course or assessment task.

Why use SWIFT?

SWIFT helps you review your written work before submission, giving you feedback you can use to improve your assessment.

The feedback can help you identify strengths in your writing, areas that may need more development, and sections you may want to review before submitting your final work.

SWIFT reviews your writing against the assessment criteria you provide, helping you see where your work appears to be meeting expectations and where it may need more attention.

For the best feedback, make sure you upload the correct assessment criteria or rubric for your task.

SWIFT does not edit, rewrite or submit your work.

The feedback is designed to guide your thinking and support your learning. You decide what feedback to use, what changes to make, and how to improve your final submission.

Your assessment remains your own work.

SWIFT gives you access to writing feedback when you are working on your assessment, including outside regular support hours.

This means you can review your writing and make improvements at a time that suits you.

SWIFT is built to meet WCAG 2 standards, which ensures it delivers an accessible experience for all users, including those with disabilities. It does this by supporting clear navigation, readability, and compatibility with assistive technologies.
