From Taree on the Manning River, you can explore beautiful coastal towns with white-sand beaches, or head inland to discover local villages, markets and scenic countryside. Swim, surf or fish along the region’s coastline and freshwater waterways, enjoy local cafés and restaurants, or take in the views from the historic Crowdy Head Lighthouse.

Nearby national parks offer plenty of opportunities for hiking, camping and exploring nature, while towns such as Wingham, Tinonee and Nabiac are an easy scenic drive away. For a longer adventure, the spectacular Barrington Tops is also within reach.

Located on High Street near Manning Base Hospital, the Manning Education Centre is a purpose-built medical and health sciences teaching facility. It provides students with access to well-equipped Clinical Skills Laboratories and state-of-the-art simulated learning environments.

The facilities allow undergraduate students and qualified health professionals from a range of disciplines to develop and practise clinical, procedural and patient care skills in a safe and supportive environment before applying them in real-world settings.

Manning Base Hospital provides a broad range of specialist health services to the Manning Valley and surrounding communities. Specialist areas include surgery, day surgery, general medicine, critical care, obstetrics, paediatrics, emergency care, oncology, palliative care, rehabilitation, high dependency and mental health.

The hospital also provides a range of diagnostic and allied health services, including radiology, ultrasound, physiotherapy, pharmacy, pathology, occupational therapy, social work, ECG and discharge planning. Co-located services include the Taree Community Health Centre, Public Dental Clinic, Mental Health Service and Drug and Alcohol Service.

Students can apply for subsidised accommodation across several locations in Taree, all within walking distance of the Manning Education Centre and Manning Base Hospital. Options include our 12 two-bedroom Flett Street units, as well as student accommodation on High Street, Victoria Street and Wynter Street.

Students have their own private, furnished and lockable room, providing a comfortable base during their placement.

As a student with us, you’ll have opportunities to get involved in community engagement activities across Taree and the surrounding region. Previous students have participated in NAIDOC Week activities and Health Careers programs, connecting with local communities while gaining a broader understanding of rural health and wellbeing.
