Celebrating 25 years of commitment to rural health, education and community partnerships.
Pathways
We’re committed to supporting students at every stage of their journey into health careers. Whether you’re in high school exploring options, a university student seeking rural placement, or looking for targeted programs to support your learning, we have pathways to help you succeed.
School recruitment programs
We love connecting with local high schools to inspire the next generation of health professionals. Our school recruitment programs provide students with opportunities to:
- Learn about health careers in rural areas
- Meet current students and mentors
- Participate in workshops and hands-on experiences
We work closely with Future Students to ensure students get the guidance and information they need to explore study options in medicine, nursing, allied health, and beyond.
Nursing - Study in Place Program
For students looking to gain practical experience close to home, our Study in Place program allows you to complete part of your degree while staying in your local community. This is a fantastic way to experience rural healthcare while remaining connected to your support network.
Medicine - Regional Training Hub
Our Regional Training Hub (RTH) supports students from across our footprint, including Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Inverell, Moree, Port Macquarie, Tamworth, and Taree. The Hub provides tailored support, mentoring, and learning opportunities to make rural placements enriching and accessible.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
