Getting connected

You will need the following to connect to our wireless network:

  • Laptop or device with WiFi capabilities
  • Current Service pack for your Operating System
  • Up to date anti-virus software
  • Wireless Network card capable of using IEEE 802.1x authentication (most laptops will come with this installed)
Connnecting your laptop or device to the University wireless network

Configuring unsupported devices

Users who wish to connect a device to the University wireless network that is NOT supported or documented, may use the following configuration details. These details are provided without any support and the University accepts no responsibility for their use.

Network Name or SSID: newcastle.edu.au
Authentication: WPA2 Enterprise with PEAP/MSCHAPv2
Use your UNI-ID and password
Proxy Details: Type: Automatic Configuration File
URL: http://proxy.newcastle.edu.au/proxy.pac

 

Network Name or SSID: eduroam
Authentication: WPA2 Enterprise with TTLS/PAP
Use your username as UNI-ID@newcastle.edu.au and your password
Proxy Details: Type: Automatic Configuration File
URL: http://proxy.newcastle.edu.au/proxy.pac
   
TAFE Staff and Students (Ourimbah Campus)

TAFE staff and students who wish to connect a laptop to The University of Newcastle Wireless Network should follow the Configuring and Connecting instructions provided in the documents listed above.

However, the web browser Proxy Server settings for TAFE staff and students at Ourimbah must be set as described in Proxy Server Settings for TAFE Staff and Students Ourimbah Campus.
