Goal 11:
Sustainable Cities and Communities
Affordable Housing for Students
The University provides on‑campus accommodation to students, with room types and fees that are set using independent market surveys as benchmarks to ensure affordability relative to local private housing.
Our pricing strategy is deliberately structured so that student housing rates remain significantly below prevailing market rents, helping to reduce cost pressures on students.
In 2024, the University of Newcastle offered affordable student accommodation with fees ranging from $201.56 – $413.50 per week while the market rate for similar housing was estimated at up to $505 per week.
In 2025, the University of Newcastle offers affordable student accommodation with fees ranging from $249.45 – $477.76 per week while the market rate for similar housing is estimated at up to $540 per week.
When you live on campus, you receive more than just a bed to sleep in at night or a hot meal at the end of a day. We provide services like access to wifi, general cleaning, utilities such as electricity and water usage, 24/7 security, and wellbeing and support services. All of which are included as part of our commitment to providing an outstanding student experience.
